Sometimes, I will sit and ruminate on the fact that in America it was legal to buy and sell children, women and men. I’ve collected a couple of slave auction ads, mostly as a reminder that it’s very easy to normalize terror. It takes real effort to make people realize that 1) they’re horrible and 2) they don’t have to be horrible. This is why vegans are so insufferable. Many of them see eating animals as normalized terror. And I get it. But bacon is delicious. And I guess, at the time, slavery was delicious too.
